  2. It’s a Sweet Celebration at Dairy Queen® Restaurants

    March 31, 2014

The popular Confetti Cake Blizzard® Treat returns and is now available in a Waffle Cone this April

MINNEAPOLIS – Back by popular demand, the Dairy Queen® system brings back the Confetti Cake Blizzard® Treat as the featured Blizzard of the Month for April. Just when the celebration couldn’t get any sweeter, the blockbuster Confetti Cake Blizzard Treat is now available in a freshly baked Waffle Cone for the first time.

An indulgent combination of moist white cake pieces and confetti frosting blended with creamy DQ® creamy vanilla soft serve, the Confetti Cake Blizzard Treat is available at participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® restaurants nationwide beginning April 1. Dairy Queen fans can enjoy the Confetti Cake Blizzard Treats in four sizes, including the popular Mini, as well as in a Waffle Cone.

“We want all of our fans to have their cake and eat it too – only this cake is wrapped in a freshly baked Waffle Cone,” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ). “What’s great about this is that it’s a treat within a treat and what better way to celebrate than with confetti and cake – two flavors that were made to go together.”

Many Blizzard Treat flavors, including Confetti Cake, can easily be made into DQ Cakes which are perfect for Easter, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and more.

The Dairy Queen system began blending simple combinations of cookies, candies, chocolates, nuts and fruits with DQ soft serve in 1985 to create the signature Blizzard Treat. The iconic treat has created the served upside-down Blizzard culture and since then, one-of-a-kind flavors such as S’mores, Chocolate Candy Shop and Confetti Cake have delighted Dairy Queen fans as part of the featured Blizzard of the Month program, which began in 2003.

MINNEAPOLIS – As most of the country digs out from a particularly wicked snow filled winter, the Dairy Queen® system is celebrating the dawn of spring by going green with the return of the Mint Oreo® Blizzard® Treat as the featured Blizzard of the Month for March.

A refreshing mix of crème de menthe topping  and Oreo cookie pieces blended with creamy DQ® vanilla soft serve, the Mint Oreo Blizzard Treat is available at participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® restaurants nationwide beginning March 3.

New to the menu this year is the Mint Oreo Royal Shake, a deliciously easy to sip treat garnished with whipped topping and Oreo pieces. Dairy Queen fans can enjoy Mint Oreo Blizzard Treats in four sizes, including the popular Mini, and Royal Shakes in small, medium or large sizes.

“Our Mint Oreo Blizzard Treat has become the unofficial kick off for spring for our fans and our system,” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ). “We continue to innovate and add to our menu and in March that means the debut of our Mint Oreo Royal Shake.”

Many Blizzard Treat flavors, including Mint Oreo, can easily be made into DQ Cakes which are perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and more.

The Dairy Queen system began blending simple combinations of cookies, chocolates, nuts, candies and fruits with DQ soft serve in 1985 to create the signature Blizzard Treat. The iconic treat has created the served upside-down Blizzard culture and since then, one-of-a-kind flavors such as S’mores, Chocolate Candy Shop and Confetti Cake have delighted Dairy Queen fans as part of the featured Blizzard of the Month program, which began in 2003.

    Jan. 4, 2014

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Unified Supply Chain, Inc. (USCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ), has recognized three of its most innovative suppliers with company awards.

USCI annually honors companies that have delivered extraordinary service to the Dairy Queen® system. Companies recognized this year are Birchwood Foods in Kenosha, Wisc. with the Supplier of the Year Award; Galliker Dairy in Johnston, Pa. with the Dairy of the Year Award; and U.S. Foods Northwest in Fife, Wash. with the Distributor of the Year Award.and

“Each of our honorees have contributed to the growth and success of the Dairy Queen system in 2013,” said Roger Hubbard, Chief Supply Chain Officer for USCI. “We appreciate their hard work and dedication in exceeding our very stringent guidelines and in consistently providing superior service and outstanding support.”

Birchwood Foods has partnered with the Dairy Queen system for 38 years. In 2013, the Supplier of the Year Award winner worked closely with the DQ® system on several successful cost saving strategies as the supplier of its ground beef patties, a key ingredient in the roll out of the innovative DQ $5 Buck Lunch that launched in 2013.

A 15-year strategic dairy partner of the Dairy Queen system, Galliker Dairy received the top score on product quality, customer service and system support to receive the Dairy of the Year Award. Galliker revised its program to reduce costs in existing distribution areas, as well as expand to additional distribution areas at a reduced price.

U.S. Foods Northwest and its predecessor company, previous Distributor of the Year Award winner Monte Vista Distributing, have been servicing the DQ system since 1980.

  37. The Dairy Queen® System Honors Birchwood Foods with Distinguished “Supplier of the Year” Award

    Jan. 3, 2014

KENOSHA, Wisc. – Birchwood Foods in Kenosha, Wisc. has been named Supplier of the Year by Unified Supply Chain, Inc. (USCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ).

Birchwood Foods has partnered with the Dairy Queen® system for 38 years. In 2013, Birchwood Foods worked closely with the DQ® system on several successful cost saving strategies as the supplier of its ground beef patties.

“It is through partners like Birchwood Foods that the Dairy Queen system can continue to roll out innovative new products, such as the DQ $5 Buck Lunch that launched in 2013,” said Roger Hubbard, Chief Supply Chain Officer for USCI. “With the Supply Chain Council’s input, Birchwood Foods implemented a program to help control beef cost which was instrumental for the successful roll out of the $5 Buck Lunch value meal.”

To become Supplier of the Year, a company must demonstrate outstanding performance for delivery and support for franchisees. Performance accuracy, order fulfillment, on-time delivery, pricing variances and service follow-up are among the judging criteria.

The Supplier of the Year Award is one of several that USCI annually presents to partners who provide superior service and outstanding support to the more than 4,400 Dairy Queen® and DQ Grill & Chill® locations in the United States.
